Ash Wednesday 2010

Ash Wednesday marks the 1st day of the Lent season. Lent is a time which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the count). It is at Lent that Christians (Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians and Anglicans) observe fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline.

This year Ash Wednesday is on 17 Feb, 2010. Ash Wednesday is supposedly a wake-up call - forcing us to face mortality and sinfulness. A day of repentance.

*Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of repentance.

Other significant days during the season of Lent will be:
- Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter, the last Sunday of Lent) which marks Jesus triumphal entry to Jerusalem with a blessing of palms and procession.
- Maudy Thursday (the Thursday of the holy week which leads to Easter). A time of remembering the Last Supper
- Good Friday (a day of remembering Christ's death)
- Easter Sunday (the resurrection of Christ)

Chinese New Year Cookies

My Mummy has been patronizing this bakery quite a bit, lately. It is located at Aman Suria and is called Thyme Bakery & Cafe. She has purchased some nice breads, buns and of late, Chinese New Year cookies there.

The lady boss is apparently a "countryman" of mummy's hometown but she hasn't gotten to meeting her yet. Nevertheless, I look forward to eating the cookies bought there.

Here is an interesting article written about the bakery and its owner: http://thestar.com.my/columnists/story.asp?file=/2008/8/16/columnists/navelgazer/1789397&sec=Navel%20Gazer

My Mummy's Gone Missing

1 Feb 2010 was Federal Territory Day and people who worked in the Federal Territory State had a day off. My mummy didn't go work today and yet I couldn't find her when I woke up this morning. And to make matters worse, she was missing for 3 days.

I had to call up Ah Ju "Gu-gu" to help "search" for my mummy. She took me to all the familiar places but still mummy was no where to be found. I was terribly upset. Even Neng-nging had to pacify me by telling me that mummy will find her way back ... and that I don't have to worry.

Finally, after the 3rd day my mummy came home ! She got me a Paddington Bear shirt and a box of pink Porky snack sticks (the import version for the Malaysian Rocky sticks). I reprimanded her for doing a disappearing act and she promised me to be good.

Apparently, she has gone off to Singapore for work and "failed" to inform me. Naughty mummy, don't you do this to me again !

January 2010 Came and Gone

Yes, Auntie Precious Pearl ... so fast time's gone by. See January 2010 has come and gone by in a blink of an eye. It's February now.

Soon, we will be celebrating Chinese New Year and 2010 is the year of the Tiger (my papa's year). According to the Chinese zodiac, 2010 is the Year of the metal (golden) Tiger, which commences on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011.

This year mummy's slow at getting things done. No angpow packets, no new cash notes, no cookies, no spring cleaning ... nothing's done yet ! Mummy, hurry up ...
