Broadband Rivalry - Who takes the cake !

Broadband rivalry here in Malaysia is very prominent. The latest player to join in the broadband wagon is P1 http://www.p1.com.my/. They have been very aggressive with their ads "Sudah Potong" or "Cut Already" which had been connotatively viewed as having an "explicit innuendo" to circumcision here in an Islamic country. Albeit the differing opinions on the ad, it had come across as a marketing campaign with a very strong message to promote their broadband services.

The local paper today reports the above:
http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/11/30/business/5198882&sec=business
and apparently Celcom emerges as the winner. http://www.celcom.com.my/broadband/html/index.html
This is no surprise as Celcom's CEO is Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly, an excellent Marketeer. You can view his profile here http://www.axiata.com/about-us/mgmt/shazali

My mummy is just happy with Maxis broadband.

Charcoal Bread Anyone ?

Mummy bought a very funny colored bread and asked me to guess its color today ... who would have thought of jet-black color ! It is called charcoal bread.

Mummy let me try it with butter and it actually tasted quite nice ... black, soft and a little milky (no taste of charcoal at all).

It is said that charcoal is beneficial for the human body and doctors would prescribe charcoal to adults if they suffer from diarrhoea.

Here is an article you can read up regarding the benefits of charcoal: http://www.pyroenergen.com/articles/bamboo-charcoal-medicinal-benefits.htm

Thanksgiving Day, 26 November 2009

Thanksgiving Day has its roots in America. It is said to be celebrated by the American nation with fervor and euphoria on the 4th Thursday of November.

Thanksgiving is a time for merrymaking, shopping, family reunion, feasts and family dinners. People also take time to thank God for his constant grace and for all the material possessions man enjoys. For many, Thanksgiving is also the time of thanksgiving and being grateful for their kindness.

Here is a good site regarding the history of Thanksgiving: http://www.history.com/content/thanksgiving

Psalm 107:1 - Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.

The Lord's Prayer

The Lord's Prayer is the model prayer that Jesus taught us all to pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever
Amen

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name
This means that we are praying to the one and only God. And, we are praising God for who He is.

Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
This is saying that we are waiting for God's kingdom to come to earth, and that whatever He wants done on earth will be done.

Give us this day our daily bread
We are praying that God meet our daily needs. We are praying that our physical bodies be taken care of on earth (food, water, shelter, clothing, etc.).

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us
This means that we should forgive others for things they have done wrong to us, so God will forgive us of our sins when we do things wrong, too.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
Here we are asking God to keep us safe. We want Him to show us right from wrong and protect us from Satan, who tries hard to make us do things unpleasing to God.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever
This means we acknowledge God as Almighty. We end our prayer with more praise to God.

Lord Jesus, please help my Mummy to mean this as we pray this every morning.

Missing Ms. Kitty

Ms. Kitty, I am missing you.

I have missed Ms. Kitty as she is still away. I am told that she has gone to America to see her Mummy who resides there.

I have attempted to call her many times with my toy phone but to no avail. Mummy asked me if I got Ms. Kitty's number ???? Har ... Number ? What number ... don't phone calls enable you to talk to someone whom you can't get to see.

Hmmm ... I remember Mah-Mah buying the iTalk card to make outstation (national) calls to Grand Uncle and international calls to Yian Gu-Gu ... the iTalk pre-paid calling card is provided by Telekom Malaysia and has a coverage to 79 countries at attractive rates. The connection is made through Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This service is available through any touch-tone phone, mobile phone or payphone. Here is more info on the iTalk Card http://estore.tmrewards.com.my/

Maybe I should get an iTalk Card to get in touch with Ms. Kitty.

Enacting the Parable of the Prodigal Son

Today at Children's Church, we acted out the Parable of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15:11-32.

It was a very interesting little do where everyone was dressed up for the specific character they were to play.
As I was in the little ones group, I was given a pretty pink hair band with piggy ears ... ha ha ... you would have guessed which character I was.

Aunties and Uncles even had the enactment video-taped up ... impressive I tell you.

However, what was the most interesting part was the snack time after the show ... there was jelly, hors d'oeuvres, lollipops and titbits :) ...

The Parable of the Lost Son

Jesus continued: There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.

Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ So he got up and went to his father.

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.

Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'

The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'

'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'

Final Week of School

Final week of school was such fun this year with Uncle Chin standing in for Ms. Kitty. Psst ... don't tell Ms. Kitty ok ? Ms. Kitty had to be away to care for her mummy who is not feeling well.

16 Nov 2009 - Pool Day. We had a fun time getting wild and wet.

I wasn't allowed by Mummy to go into the inflatable pool as I cut my finger on the baby chair a day earlier but Uncle Chin gave in to my pleads nevertheless ... :P

17 Nov 2009 - Food Fun Day. We had fun snacking.

18 Nov 2009 - Red Day. We came all dressed in red.

19 Nov 2009 - Winnie the Poooh Day.

But I brought Ms. Piggy instead ... heh ! heh ! this is what is called "beating the norm"

20 Nov 2009 - School Party.

School Party Day was the best ... I ate so many jelly pudding that Aunty Angeline pre-warned Mummy about giving me more party pack food.

I love the pink colored Cocon Jelly Pudding ... here you can see it for yourself http://www.cocon.com.my/v2/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=16&Itemid=93&lang=en It even has Nato de Coco inside it.
Don't you love year end school closing activities ... I am going to look forward to my next party on the 19th Dec 2009 - Pre Christmas Children Get-Together !

Sexiest Man Alive 2009

Aww ... the award went to Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow) again this year. Depp won the award in 2003. There you can read more about it here: http://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20315920_20320494,00.html

Mummy is disappointed that it wasn't Robert Pattinson http://robertpattinson.org/ She watched him as Edward Cullen in "Twlight" and has found him a fascinating actor ... Mummy, have you seen him on Harry Potter ... he is such a geek :P ... And furthermore, he is far too young, only 23 ... give him some time to be "more man" ok.

Niways, cheers to Johnny Depp for the re-instated fame !

Oodles of Noodles

There are many types of noodle options here in Malaysia. Malaysians are really spoilt for choices :) ... and I am glad to have so many options ... just too bad my Mummy's a bad cook.

Just to name a few of the options we have:
1) yellow mee
2) mee hoon
3) kuey teow
4) wan tan mee
5) yee mee (egg noodle)
6) sang mee
7) meen seen
8) tai lok mee
9) cellophane mee
10) ramen/in-famous maggie mee
11) japanese soba
and not forgetting the many types of pasta options

I especially have a special liking for kuey teow cos it is smooth and easy to digest. Mummy brought me to the infamous Old Town White Coffee kopitiam for their Ipoh Chicken Kuey Teow yesterday. http://www.oldtown.com.my/ I also get to enjoy their ice-cream on special toast as dessert ... yummy :P

Do try out the Old Town White Coffee place ... it also has wi-fi access, just very IT savvy !!

Report Card Day

Friday 13, November 2009 has been designated as Report Card Day !

The Report Card aspires to provide comprehensive, concise and accurate information about each student's accomplishments for the academic year. The goal of the Report Card is to disseminate information to parents and interested parties to work together with teachers to ensure every student access to an extraordinary education.

Such a glamorous aspiration and goal of the report card !!

Don't report cards create trauma to students when their parents go collect them and are informed of the child's academic performance ?

Here is an interesting article about academic report cards: http://www.theage.com.au/national/schools-fear-report-card-culture-clash-20091107-i2w1.html

I was graded as a A- student and next year I will go to Year 4 class. Milla however won't be joining me as she is only 3 next year :(
